Olympic Bid Sponsorship: Madrid and Rio get financial boost

The bidding process for hosting the Olympics is becoming even more highly sponsored and last month Madrid's bid to host the Olympic Games in 2016 picked up two new sponsors, the airline Iveria and Instituto Cervantes, the largest organisation in the world responble for promoting the study and teaching of Spanish and Hispanic-American language and culture. Rival city Rio de Janeiro announced funding of almost $2 million from Banco Brandesco, joining Embratel, EBX, Odebreaht and Tam. Read more…

Tour of Britian confirms position with high profile renewals

Canon renewed with the Tour of Britian as official imaging partner and Highland Spring, which already sponsors triple Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy, also spondored the Tour of Britain. "The Tour of Britian has become one of the most prestigious events in Britian's sporting calendar and we are proud to be the official beverage sponsor of the event", said Sally Stanley, marketing director of Highland Spring. "Cycling is growing exonentially as a sport and a pastime in the UK and by supporing the Tour of Britian and the Skyride series, Highland Spring is helping to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up a sport that is sociable, fun and affordable." London 2012 Drives the Sponsorship Market

According to a report by brandReport, total shirt sponsorship for the 20 top-flight clubs in the UK Premier League slumped from a peak of £75 million two years ago to £65 million. The report did express a beleif that things would improve and Mintel predicted an increasein sponsorship across all sports in Britian after a year of stagnation. Mintel forecasts that sponsorship income will improve by £1 million this year to £487 million but, with the London 2012 Olympics driving the market, growth will accelerate to £570m by 2014.
